Outdoor team building activities were made special for this group because of the beautiful location: Nela Park. If you haven’t heard of Nela Park and you’re in the Cleveland, Ohio area, you might want to check it out. This group from GE Lighting consisted of 45 participants from around the country, each and every one of whom thoroughly enjoyed gorgeous and historical setting of Nela Park.
Outdoor team building activities in Nela Park
An abandoned vineyard seven miles outside Cleveland, it has been owned an operated by GE since in 1913. In 1975 the 92 acre Nela Park was listed as a Historic Place in the US Department of the Interior’s National Register. This summer, it was the scene of a very successful Bike-A-Thon Charity Team Building Workshop one balmy evening after dinner!
Bikes bring new salespeople together for a common cause
The group was about half new employees and half current employees. Not only that, but they were from all over the country, so a double dose of icebreakers was definitely in order!
The group started with “Do what I Say”, an icebreaker designed to warm up communication skills. Then they proceeded to the Air Counting Game, one which requires communication but also focus and collaboration.
Warmed up and ready to go, participants were ready for the bicycle challenge!
Summer doesn’t last forever in Ohio, so we took that summer theme and ran with it, right down to the type of donation! This group chose to assemble bicycles for local kids who needed them- what a great way to spend the summer, wheeling around on your bike, and this group wanted to make that dream possible for local kids.
But we don’t just hand over the parts and tools necessary for assembling those bicycles! This group had to earn them by successfully completing outdoor team building activities designed to test their teamwork skills. They competed for parts and tools, and then were ready to assemble their bicycles. That’s where collaboration skills came in handy!
Outdoor team building activities result in 8 bikes being built and decorated.
The 45 participants were able to complete eight bicycles, which is no small feat given the “obstacles” our facilitators give them each step of the way! Then it was time to decorate the bikes for the kids who would be receiving them. Even with just an hour and a half for the bicycle portion of the outdoor team building activities, each team finished on time.
Congratulations to GE Lighting!
