Medical giant McKesson wanted to add a charity twist to a recent meeting in New Albany, Ohio, and our Bike-A-Thon charity bike build fit the bill perfectly!
As a company they have been experiencing a huge amount of growth, and they wanted to drive home a theme of empowerment. While it was important to show the gratitude that the management had for all the hard work behind this growth, it was even more important to place the emphasis on empowerment, to continue to encourage the managers to problem solve before elevating an issue.
The workshop’s activities were centered around encouraging others on their team to overcome the obstacles presented to them by collaborating to solve the challenged presented. The team building was evident by how the teams came together with enthusiasm and energy while they faced some difficult puzzles and physical challenges.
The individual teams assembled bikes that were to be donated to the Central Community House in Columbus, OH, an organization works with the kids from the poorest areas of the greater Columbus area. The kids are going to receive the bikes at Christmas time as a reward to getting good grades and being model citizens. It was a tear-jerking moment when the CCH representative gave a very emotional speech about how she was once one of the kids in the Central Community House’s programs and was able to get out of the poverty and go to college and get a degree that she now uses to mentor the kids in the program.
