DaVita’s Risk Mitigation department arrived for their charity workshop with 3 goals in mind. One by one, we knocked them all out of the park! Here’s how…
A Gorgeous View Always Helps
For their Wheelcharity™ team building workshop this past Spring, DaVita sent a fun-loving group who were ready for a challenge. That’s good, since they had 3 goals:
- Have fun. (oh yes!)
- Get to know one another so they could develop teamwork skills. (of course!)
- Give back to the community in a way that was meaningful. (you betcha.)
We gladly helped them meet their goals, and they aced every challenge we sent their way. It all started out perfectly, with a wonderful, gorgeous view at our prime location. It was the Hotel Contessa on the River Walk, where we were lucky to have a beautiful meeting room that had a view of the river. A great beginning for our San Antonio team building event!
This Group Was New to One Another
The Risk Mitigation Department at DaVita is made up of employees from all over the company: nurses, techs, administrators, and analysts. They were unfamiliar with one another, so our workshop started with a very generous smattering of ice breakers.
Soon, they were comfortable enough to tackle a very special challenge: moving outside their normal range of comfort to complete a hands-on activity. We split the group in half and they were given some very specific rules to follow. Those rules governed how they were to pass a ball around the room, which made for some hilarious moments.
All the different personalities came out during this one, and it was great for everyone to witness them during this “safe” and fun activity. That took care of Goal #1!
We Did Commercials
After being split into even more teams, the group moved even further outside their comfort zones with Commercials. This is a popular activity that calls for everyone to be creative, collaborative and brave. They had to make presentations to the other groups, so a little courage was involved from everyone.
Of course that’s exactly the type of challenge that leads to an improvement in teamwork skills. There’s Goal #2!
Wheelchairs Were Donated to the San Antonio Military Medical Center Fisher House
The DaVita group finished six wheelchairs in all. A rep from the Fisher House at the San Antonio Military Medical Center was on hand to accept the donations and give a speech.
She did a great job by telling the DaVita group all about the individuals who would be receiving the wheelchairs they assembled that day. And that’s Goal #3!
