A reunion with our friends at Dechert LLP always means one thing: fun corporate team building activities that help our client and their community.
Dechert LLP was established in 1875. Today it’s a top-ranked global law firm with 900 lawyers and offices in 26 countries. It counts among its clients Fortune 100 corporations, sovereign states, and private equity firms, as well as many wealthy individuals.
The firm’s areas of expertise include antitrust and competition law; cybersecurity; intellectual property; international arbitration; property liability; and real estate.
Corporate social responsibility is also a tradition at Dechert LLP. So their Summer Associate Orientation Program incorporates charitable giving. Magnovo’s Rescue Buddies Charity Workshop is one of their faves.
Fun corporate team building activities on a mission
We met 60 of their Millennial Summer Associates at their New York office and they were eager to dive into our workshop project.
That may be because of the importance of the Rescue Buddies they were going to create. You see, Rescue Buddies are toys given to children who’ve recently survived a life-altering calamity: a car crash, house fire, or domestic violence attack. The toys—stuffed bears, birds, and fish—give them something to cling to. They literally rescue the kids emotionally.
The Millennials split into 10 teams to stuff, assemble, and label 60 cuddly toys destined for the arms of a traumatized child. It was easy to put their hearts into such a noble effort. And it was fun applying some of the communications and collaborative skills we’d reviewed during the leadership training session.
Fun corporate team building activities for the community
We entrusted the 60 toys to New York’s famous Children’s Aid charity.
In 1853 a social reformer named Charles Loring Brace established the organization in response to the hundreds of poor children who were homeless or forced to live in poorly maintained orphanages.
They started out opening lodging houses and running industrial schools to educate and support approximately 30,000 poor kids.
Today, Children’s Aid not only provides education, but it also offers many outstanding programs including nutrition; sex and health education; family support; fitness and recreation; and college and career readiness.
The Children’s Aid representative was thrilled with our donation. And Magnovo and the Dechert’s Summer Associates ended the day more keenly aware of the tremendous need children have for emotional support. It made us all feel good to know that we’d helped in a small but significant way.
