Team building is an integral aspect of having a cohesive team that can collaborate and create together in a positive way. Most often, giving team members a common cause to strive for, particularly one that will help others in the community, provides an excellent and positive opportunity for team building.
How about pulling your team together to build wheelchairs for those who are dependent on them for mobility? Chances are that many of your team members will have family members or friends who use wheelchairs, and everyone will be eager to help with this cause.
Team Building and Charity Work
During the process of building wheelchairs for a local organization, your team members will have a chance to compete with one another and strengthen the skills that they use in the workplace every day—problem solving, collaborating, cooperating with each other or different departments, creating, and communicating. The facilitators at Charity Team Building Events have developed a wheelchair building program, the WheelCharity™ Workshop, that will guide your team members through the process of building wheelchairs, while adding a fun twist at the end of the event.
Get Ready to Roll
Once the wheelchairs have been built, the team members will put them to the test by competing with each other in different obstacle courses that are designed to strengthen team building. This competition will also open team members’ eyes to the difficulties that people who are dependent on wheelchairs face in their everyday lives. Sometimes one has to walk in another person’s shoes to truly understand his or her situation and challenges.
If your team wants to use their creative abilities, they can take a little time to decorate the wheelchairs they have built before setting out to deliver them. This team building opportunity will definitely provide team members with a chance to get to know one another better as they unite to reach a common goal.
Delivering the Wheels to the Community
After all of the wheelchairs have been assembled and the competitions have ended, team members can finalize this team building event by deciding where they want to the fruits of their labor to go. A number of local organizations would be happy with donations of wheelchairs, including hospitals, community centers, and senior centers. Charity Team Building Events facilitators will help you contact an organization, if necessary, and make arrangements for delivery.
