It’s the story of a girl who did an amazingly unselfish thing by working tirelessly to gather 3,000 stuffed animals for kids in need.
This is incredible enough, but consider that she was once a kid in need herself. Abandoned at birth in China, she only came to the United States six years ago…when she was five!
That’s right: Jessica Carscadden is an 11 year old girl and she started a charitable program at her school. She then proceeded to win over $50,000 in awards and peace prizes for her incredible work.
Jessica’s We Care Bears Project
Jessica calls her project We Care Bears. The stuffed toys she continues to gather through the project will go to first responders, who give them to children at crime scenes and other traumatic emergency calls. The animals help calm the kids who’ve been through a lot and could use a friend.
Jessica herself found comfort in stuffed animals when she was younger. Her facial deformities made life difficult before she was adopted by a couple from San Diego. That’s why, when her bedroom become over-stuffed with stuffed animals, she wanted to donate them to kids in need.
Rescue Buddies ™, CSR and Jessica
If this sounds a little familiar to you, it may be because you’ve read about our Rescue Buddies™ Team Building Workshop, where groups gather for a day of charitable team building and at the end of the day the stuffed animals are donated to first responders who use them on emergency calls.
It turns out that donating stuffed animals to first responders is a growing trend. It’s catching on in communities from New York state where Moose Lodges are getting involved to San Diego, where Jessica runs her We Care Bears project.
We’ve been helping companies fulfill their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with our Rescue Buddies™ workshop for quite some time now, and we’re glad to see amazing people like Jessica take the same idea and turn it into something so much bigger.
Align Your Next Team Building Workshop With the We Care Bears Project

However, Jessica’s commitment to her community is so inspiring we thought we’d share her story so groups like yours can find inspiration from this amazing 11 year-old girl.
